Excellent Book! Highly recommended for a behind the scenes look at Jeter.

This book is written from the perspective of a true idolizer. Even faults/criticisms are presented almost as positives. I like Jeter as a Yankee icon but the presentation is as if it came from a 12 year old worshipper. Having said all that, it is fun to relive all the history and the book is an easy and enjoyable read. If you are a big Yankee and Jeter fan, you will enjoy this book. One post-script, the book ends after Jeter's poor 2010 season and adversarial contract negotiation. Nice to see his performance rebound in 2012.

I am a diehard Phillies fan, but also consider myself a true baseball fan. Although not a Yankee fan, I have always admired Derek Jeter for what he represents as a person and a ballplayer and how he handles his business. This is one of the best biographies I have read and highly recommend this book to any baseball fan. I am even more of a fan now. What a class act.

Ian O'Conner does a wonderful job piecing together one of the greatest careers in baseball. This book probably only scratches the surface on what goes on behind the doors of the Yankee clubhouse and what Jeter has been able to accomplish. I strongly recommend this book to any young athlete or business man to help them understand that there are no short cuts in life or baseball. There are many life lessons for young athletes or young business men that are starting their career in today's job market in this book about Leadership. It's strange to hear how many people doubted and continue to doubt Jeter's ability. He will go down as one of the greatest Yankees of all time and hopefully we will see him standing in the Yankee dugout chasing his 10th World Series championship ring as a player or coach. Steinbriener knew what he was doing in 1996 when he handed the #2 jersey to the young athlete from Kalamazoo.

I tell you, there are a lot of things that people don't like about the New York Yankees. Probably the most prominent reason is that the Yankees have the most (WS) titles with 27, and the next closest is...10 with the St. Louis Cardinals. Butt out of the many reasons to HATE the Yankees, the one reason that I've got to LOVE the Yankees is because of one person, that one person being, Derek Jeter. While throughout the Yankee org., there are people who're pig-headed, Derek is THE ONE who has respect for everyone that he competes against. What's baffled me the most is that in the 110 yrs. that the Yankees have been around, NO ONE HAS EVER REACHED 3,000 HITS. On Saturday July 9 2011, HE BECAME THE 1ST YANKEE TO EVER REACH THIS MILESTONE. THE 1ST. To me, DEREK IS THE PERSONIFICATION OF "THE PERFECT PLAYER/TEAMATE" because the only time that he's in the spotlight is for the RIGHT reasons and not the WRONG reasons. Also, whenever the Yankees lose, he never complains and just moves on to the next game. He's no doubt a 1ST BALLOT Hall of Famer when he decides to call it a career. But there's 1 more thing that I would like Derek to do before he retires...& THAT IS TO BECOME JUST THE 3RD PLAYER IN BASEBALL HISTORY TO HAVE 4,000 CAREER HITS (JOINING TY COBB & PETE ROSE). When I count the number of uniforms that have been retired by the Yankees: 16 (if you include Jackie Robinson and Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey who both wore #8), #2 WILL BE ADDED TO THIS LIST AS WELL. THANK U MR. JETER FOR MAKING ME A FAN OF: The New York Yankees, Baseball, and most importantly, YOURSELF!!! Click yes if you agree!!!
  • Great book about a great player

Yes Derek Jeter is an interesting person because he is so guarded. This book is able to get inside. I liked Jeter before I read the book and I still have the utmost respect for him. He is a class guy who plays hard. He is going to be remembered as an all time Yankee great. This book is a good read and well worth buying
