User reviews about the book
By James Calvin
Brilliant, irreverent, and absolute fun. Everyone is either working an angle or hiding a secret. And yeah, it really does start with a dame, but that '...long last kiss, salty with tears, in the casket...' Sammy sees in their future, may be closer than he thinks. Christopher Moore has taken 1947 San Francisco and made it his.
Spillane, Chandler and Pratchett would be proud.
Moore Never Dissapoints
Literate, well written and funny.
100% fun. A great escape.
I always love Christopher Moore’s books because of the humor and the surreal settings. This is his funniest yet. I now know exactly what a manly scream sounds like, not to mention what both Mark Twain and Jack London thought of San Francisco’s weather.
