Provocative and shocking.” —Lisa Gardner, New York Times bestselling author of Find Her

“I read this novel at one sitting, absolutely riveted by the storyline.  The suspense was beautifully rendered and unrelenting!” —Sue Grafton, New York Times bestselling author of X

It all started at a dinner party. . .

A domestic suspense debut about a young couple and their apparently friendly neighbors—a twisty, rollercoaster ride of lies, betrayal, and the secrets between husbands and wives. . .

Anne and Marco Conti seem to have it all—a loving relationship, a wonderful home, and their beautiful baby, Cora. But one night, when they are at a dinner party next door, a terrible crime is committed. Suspicion immediately lands on the parents. But the truth is a much more complicated story.

Inside the curtained house, an unsettling account of what actually happened unfolds. Detective Rasbach knows that the panicked couple is hiding something. Both Anne and Marco soon discover that the other is keeping secrets, secrets they've kept for years.

What follows is the nerve-racking unraveling of a family—a chilling tale of  deception, duplicity, and unfaithfulness that will keep you breathless until the final shocking twist.

User reviews about the book

  • No surprises

I knew quickly what happened and then skimmed the rest of the book. Little suspense. Not at all like Gone Girl or Girl On The Train. I didn’t like any of the characters, they were all weak, sad and selfish. The writing was also poor, with many of the same phrases being repeated, “I almost feel sorry for X,” was used at least 5 times. Boring.
  • Entertaining, nothing special

This is a great read, every other page, my suppositions changed, just when I thought that I had it figure out. This story would make a great made-for-TV movie. I highly recommend this story

I have to say I’ve read a lot of books and this one is a great read. I had trouble putting it down. The author makes you believe one thing and then twists and turns it. If you like Mary Higgins Clark you’ll love this book. I plan on reading more from this author as they become available..it’s a MUST read..
  • Sadly convoluted and predictable

I just finished reading this novel, and the lack of creativity in storytelling is astonishing for a NYT Bestseller. The author tells you what you need to know and think, rather than letting you piece it together and make your own connections, leading to a lack intrigue or depth. As for the ending, it was sudden and flat and only served to put a Shamalan-esque twist where one was totally unnecessary. The only reason for my rating’s second star was the plot line was at least somewhat original.

Must say kept my interest, very good storyline, however was disappointed at the way it ended, thought maybe Anne mother was the one who.....don’t want to spoil it.
  • It should be made into a movie!

Well! This book was not at all what I was expecting and I'm glad for that! The writing style threw me off a bit (the book reads very much like a to-do list example: this happened, then this happened, then X was sad about it.), but once I got used to it, the plot itself sucked me in. Assume NOTHING until the last thirty pages. Because you don't/won't. That's my reader-to-reader advice for you. What a thrilling ride this story was!
